In a town full of people, some with and some with out pokemon, many things are over looked. Many things may be odd, but shrugged off. People so involved in themsleves they see nothing out of the norm. Sometimes even, the odd has becmone the norm. But somethings can't be ignored. Somethings just demand attention.
Like the Shiny Ivysaur, walking along the sidewalk as if it was any other day. People stared, questioned, and wondered. This pokemon had no trainer. Where did it come from? And why was it here? But the Ivysaur continued on her way, very determined to go through with her idea, though she was having doubts and worries. She could easily be rejected with a no. And then what? try and argue but have no one understand you?
Iris shut down her worries as she continued to the lab. She was carrying her bag around her neck. It was brown cloth, and her mother gave it to her. Inside, there was the main bag, and two small pockets. One had money her dad said humans used and she would need it, along with a few oran berries. The second pocket had a map and book given to her by her sister. The book had info about all the pokemon in the world. Thankfully, it was in footprint runes, just like the map. She wasnt good at reading human words. She could deciphere individual letters, but putting them in words was diffucult.
Also in another pocket her mother sewed into the starp was iris's own colectable. A leaf stone. She found it one day, but it was completley useless to her. They wre found alot along with fire and water stones, but Iris really liked it for some reason. She was against bringing any belongings, like toys. But the she felt the stone might come in handy, along with the other usefull things she had. She was also happy her Mother Packed her a full slice of bread. She would find berries and other things of course, but bread was her favorite. So simple and good.
But as a big building appeared in her veiw, her wandering thoughts subsuded. She hurried her pace, excited. This had to be the place. She saw a word on the side. L...A...B She thought to herself. She could spell. And though she cround read the letters, she couldnt say them. Her tounge meerley made her own pokemon noises. Not even letters She tried saying the letters really fast. She wasn't good with the sounds each letter made. But she knew what they were. <Laebee.> Thats how it sounded to her, but to others, "Ivy." She knew she was looking for the word Lab, and Laebee sounded like Laby, and Laby was proably the closest she'd get to Lab with her reading.
<Well, I guess this is it.> "Iv, ivy ivysaur"
So Iris pushed through that door, and walked into the lab. She went up imediatley to a desk with pokeballs sitting on it. She knew about Pokeballs! It's were pokemon were kept so they were safe while traveling. Its what trainers used! This had to be where trainers came then, right? She hopped so.

Karen was sitting and reading the usual boring lab reports while everyone else was at home, on lunch break. Well, she didn't eat lunch. She found it pointless to eat three full meals a day when two could still keep you going. As long as it was big and healthy. A snack, though, was acceptable and, right now, she was munching on some raw carrots she had bought from the store. And the report, this one about the atomic structure of Sacred Ash, was just as dull and boring as the last one, about the powerful healing qualities of SecretPotions.
That was when the shiny Ivysaur walked through the door. She was supposed to be making sure no one walked in the lab, but, as obvious as it was right now, she wasn't doing a very good job. But the total randomness of the situation took her by complete surprise. She stopped chewing on the carrot and dropped her papers. Her eyes followed the Pokemon as she stopping in front of a table with some Pokeballs on it. What did the Pokemon want? Karen had never met a Pokemon that wanted to be captured. Especially without a fight. But this Pokemon's behavior was so abnormal that she believed anything was possible right now.
She quickly finished the carrot she was eating and picked up her papers. Quietly setting them on the desk, she began to tiptoe forward, trying not to alarm the Pokemon. As she got closer, more things began to whirl in her head. She was always told that Pokemon were intelligent creatures and should be treated as such. So she couldn't treat it like a little puppy. But then how else should she talk to it? She decided on imagining a human stood there. It wasn't the easiest, but it was the best she could do. She swallowed and managed to get out, "Hello, um, may I help you?"

Iris wasn't too startled by the girl. Hearing the papers drop was a good warning. It made her a little a nervous, seeing that she was now one on one with a human, but it shouldn't be a big deal. If she was calm, this human would be calm, right? She had always heard the saying, They are more afraid of you, than you are of them. So if she panicked, surley this human would to.
Keeping this in mind, Iris began to answer the girls question.
<Yeah, I....>
"Ivy, Iv....."
Iris looked up at the girl with an embarassed and apologetic look. She couldnt communicate. But Iris had to do something. So she stretched out vines and grabbed the pokeballs. she held them to the girl. She wasn't sure what she was trying to say, but it was all she could think to do. She put them back down and plopped on her butt, with a sigh. This was gonna be harder than she thought.

Karen held out her arms and took the Pokeballs. There were three of them, three out of millions of Pokeballs that were given to trainers. These three Pokeballs happened to be full. Then she remembered that they had been generously donated to the lab by the champion. Apparently they were three Pokemon he had traded for another. Pokemon trading...Karen never really understood why humans would give up Pokemon. She took the first one and pressed the button in the middle. Out came a Magmar. He looked around, confused. Then slumped down and sat on the floor, looking rather sad. "Mag, magmar." <He traded me, didn't he.> The second one was a Golem. It took no notice of Karen and stared at Iris hard. "Gooooleeemm." <What are you doing here, pipsqueak?> The last was a Lucario who didn't notice the presence of any of them. She stood there, frozen, a faraway look on her face.
Karen set the now empty Pokeballs down. "Did you, um, want to see the Pokemkon inside? Because, well, here they are. And, uh, yeah." She scratched her head. Ivysaur was trying to communicate, she knew it, but only Pokemon could understand their own language.

After karen released the pokemon, it was like she disapeared. Iris paid no attention to her, but instead, focused on the pokemon. They were an intresting group, the three of them. All together, but not. All acting apart, but standing together. She looked over them. She had really only been used to the pokemon in her town, mostly starters. But Golem was familiar. She had Golem passing through her town in groups, with Graverler and geodude. She had even seen Magmars before to. But this one seemed upset.
She knew what trading was. Trainers traded their pokemon for someone elses pokemon. Sometimes to evolve it, or if someone wants a different pokemon to work with, maybe a pokemon better at battleing on the offensive, for one on the defensive. But she noticed trainers never really thought of how their pokemon would feel. Or they did, but knew they had a good trainer or place to go. But these pokemon still didn't seem to thrilled.
<I'm sorry to hear,> She said to the magmar. "Ivysaur, saur" <But dont be to upset, i hear labs take good care of pokemon. And,> She turned to the Golem, with a proud smirk, <I'm changing a game. Pokemon challenging the gyms, without a trainer.> "Ivysar ivysaur, ivy, iv ivysaur." She explained this easily to the pokemon. But then she noticed Karen again as she spoke up.
Iris shook her head. She was getting frustrated by the language barrier. She got up and looked around the lab, pointlessly looking for some hint of a trainer, or battleing, or gyms. Nothing. She was considering giving up. Then she saw a poster. It had a picture of a person and a pokemon on it, hugging. Under neath it was the words: A pokemon is a new Friend. Iris scurried over to it, put her front legs on the wall, and looked at it.
She squinted her eyes, trying to read. A, well that was easy. peeOkaymmOnnn That sounded very roughly like pokemon, which she assummed it to be, since she could hardly read. She skipped the second word, after trying to figur out wahat it was, and was over all stupmted by its lack of letters. She wished every thing had footprint runes on it. N-E-W Once again, no sense. And the last word looked hard. PeeArrrt. Party... Neeerrrr Partyner. Partner... pokemon partner! She got it!
Iris looked over her shoulder hat Karen and tapped the poster with her paw to show her this is why she was here. If thay would make any sense.

Karen tilted her head in confusion, a natural habit that made some people look at her questionably. Because she didn't just tilt her head, she hung her head. And she saw everything sideways, which just made it more confusing. But she was used to this and could read the banner. She knew the banner well, she was the one who had put it up in the first place. "I'm sorry, I don't really understand..."
Then it struck her. The Ivysaur, its behavior, just every strange thing about it. It was acting like a person who had never gotten into Pokemon before. And wanted to go on a journey. The interest in Pokeballs and the motion, the banner, and the randomness of her presence. She gasped. "Oh, so that's what you want! Well, that's a bit odd of a plan. And, uh, I don't know how we're going to do this." She grabbed a radio contactor from her belt and pulled it to her lips, pressing a small button on the side. "Hey, um Mel? Can you come down? We've got a very curious situation." A voice could be heard from the other end. "What kind of situation?" "Just come here, ok?"
A few moments later, a door near the back slammed open and an adult man walked through. He wasn't that old, maybe in his mid thirties. But his face almost glowed with intelligence and wisdom. He looked to the three Pokemon, to the Ivysaur, to Karen, then back to the Ivysaur. "What's this?" Karen gestured towards the Pokemon. "I think you should ask them, sir."
He nodded. Stepping forward, he pulled a small device out of one of his large lab coat pockets. It was a thin, dark gray box with a microphone and earphones connected into outlets. He bent down towards the Ivysaur and held the microphone out to her. In a kind voice, he said, "Please explain in your own tongue. Speak clearly into the microphone and I will be able to understand you."

Iris excitedly jumped down as Karen hitthe nail right on the head, and knew exactly what she wanted. Ha! Take that language barrier! Iris looked at Karen, waiting for what came next. Obviously Iris's request was odd, and deffinetley uncommon and unprepared for. She listened carefully as Karen called for assitance.
As the man walked in, Iris got more excited. Sh was almost thee, she could feel it! Finnaly! she had never imagined she'd ge this far, let alone even be understood. She realized now just how high the odds were stacked against her. But she stayed stubbornly determined. This woud be the first and biggest challange. But Iris was still utimatley relived, and blown away, by the translator. She quicklly and camly spoke, trying to make a good impression.
"Ivy iv, Ivysaur. Ivysaur saur saur iv. Iv ivysaur ivy, saur. Saur ivy saur ivysaur."
<I'm Iris. I wanted to challenge the gyms. But i need a pokemon partner to Start. I hear lab is the first stop on a journey like this.>
She looked expectanly at the man, ready to go.

The words Iris spoke came out slow and thick in the translator, but Mel could understand them. He nodded. That definitely a very strange request and he wondered if it was even legal, a Pokemon challenging the gyms. But fortunately, Mel was a reckless man. He loved challenges and new experiments and he went right along with the idea. "Yes...I think that could be arranged." He set the translator down in front of her and stood up. He hurried over one of the desks, pulled open the drawer, and took out a small book. Karen was watching him silently.
He flipped through it, scanning the pages and lines, then snapped it shut when he was through. "Iris," he began as he stood up and made his way back. "I believe you are about to make history. However, new records come with new restrictions. With Team Celestial on the loose, the police department has been looking for any excuse to imprison humans and Pokemon. Try not to attract attention to yourself and, if you must, use this translator to explain your motives to the police only. If anyone else attempts to speak to you, leave. I'll let you decide about carrying them in Pokeballs or letting them walk freely. However, Pokeballs would attract less attention. And one more thing. What type of Pokemon do you wish to start with?"

Iris listened to the man's words, and nodded. He seemed like he was someone who knew alot about the world. she listened intentley to the man, trying to understand the meaning of his words. Celestial? Police? wow, she really didn't plan this out accuratley, or really, at all. She had her bag prepared, and set a goal. But she had skipped all the obstacles, and the import little details. But she would get through, and spoke up again.
"Ivysaur, ivysaur. Saur ivysaur. Ivy."
<A pokemon having a translator at all is suspicous. But i wold like my friends to stay in pokeballs, it'll be safer. They'll understand...>
She began to think now, how she got to choose what kind of pokemon she would work with. That was quite conveinet. She thought briefley of scar...
"Iv!"
<Ice!>
She blinked. She picked the opposite of her best friend. She was surprised in herself, but, if she thought, not really. She was changing in life.

OOC: Short, not much time. The man nodded and pocketed the translator, understanding Iris's request. If she didn't want to carry it around, she didn't have to. He turned to a machine behind and typed in ice. Four Pokeballs appeared. He took three and released the Pokemon. Sneasel Female Scratch | Leer | Taunt | Empty Slot Articuno Male Gust | Powder Snow | Empty Slot | Empty Slot Swinub Male Tackle | Odor Sleuth | Empty Slot | Empty Slot

Options. Why more options? She realized that's why humans often took these journey's, and not pokemon. Pokemon were more humble, not always pickin what would help them. Just what was best for life. But now, she was allowed to have preference. How odd.
Iris studdied the pokemon before her. She imediatley whipped out her book on pokemon out of her bag. She was relived to remember that the book was in footprint runes, her language. She looked up the sneasel, since it was the only girl, like her. Wow, from a far off region from kanto, where Iris was born and raised. And she was unfamiliar with type of dark. Hmm... dual types, like herself...
Articuno however, was fammiliar. She had seen one before, flying over head. Articuno was a legendary in Kanto. But apparently in Aero, it wasn't. It was being offered as a Starter! She was really stunned by that, but rembered things were bound to be different.
Lastly, swinub. She looked him up in her book. Well, he had some imressive evolutions. He was, like herself, a pokemon that had to evolve two times to get to the best state. But the pokmon was very tiny. She worried if he would keep up. And her mind was on fammiliar home comforts... She approached Articuno, and nodded to the man.
She then looked at Articuno, and gave him a confident mile and strong nod.
<Iris.> She said her name with much strength, and put her book swiftly back into her bag, with great pride. She was trying to send out an Air of what she was trying to do, how she would let nothing stop her. After all, Articuno was going to be the first one to help her on her journey.

Mel nodded and returned the three Pokemon to their Pokeballs. He put back the two that contained Swinub and Sneasal and gave the one with Articuno to Iris. He then picked up the fourth, unopened Pokeball. He pressed the white button and out popped a Vanillite. He looked from Mel to Karen, wondering which was going to be his trainer, then recognized both of them. His eyes then fell on Iris and the Pokeball and almost squeaked out loud. Icy tears began to run down his eyes. This was the second time he'd been the rejected one, the last trainer picking a Spheal over him. Mel quickly returned him and the machine took back the three remaining Pokeballs.
He looked back at Iris. A weird sort of affection had grown inside him. "I wish you good luck with this new game of yours. And...when you finish your journey, I'd love to hear about it." He smiled and gave his pocket a pat. "And if you need anything, we'll be here." He turned to Karen. "You go on to finish that report, I'll finish up here." The girl's face flushed. She nodded, then rushed back into the main room, grabbed her carrots and the paper and left the room. Mel stood there for a second, then led Iris back to the main door. As he opened it, he said once again, "Good luck!"

Iris grabbed the pokeball with her mouth, and plopped it into her bag with the rest of her items. She Felt a little depressed at seeing the fourth, very sad pokemon. But soon he too, was put away. Iris began to wonder where she would end up from here. She had so much to learn, so much to do, and everything to acomplish.
She smiled and nodded simply to both Mel and Karen. Her way of saying thank you. Then she headed toward the dor, ready to start a new adventure, battle the gyms.
She was going to change the game.
