The Start of it All (mod)

Violet trodded out of her house with her family behind her, calling their goodbyes and good wishes. A small grin was on her face as she ran toward the lab at Smallsprout Town. She heard the little pokemon in the grass, with the rustles and the small voices that escaped through the plants. She was pretty sure today was the day, but with butterflies in her stomach, she didn't know for sure. She was excited to get her first pokemon, all to her own. Her mother's Clefairy was always nice to her, which made her more eager to train and explore the Aero region. She finally made it to the lab, with the large wooden doors looming over her. She searched for a doorbell, but to no avail. She balled her hand into a fist and awkwardly reached out to knock. Three good knocks should do it, she thought. As she knocked, she awaited, hoping that they will answer before she barfed the butterflies out of her stomach, and onto the pavement.

A boy, of about fifteen, sat in the lab, silently cursing while looking over at his research books. Studying under Professor Willow had its drawbacks...like having to read some stupid books on Pokemon sixteen hours a day. He almost lost it, throwing one of the three-pound books at the wall, where it hit with a heavy thud. He adjusted his glasses, then continued.

Then there were a few knocks on the door. He strode over, casually, with no rush, and opened it, and tried to put on his best expression. He failed miserably. "Uh...hi. I'm uh..going to be helping you today...i suppose." The light from outside was blinding him. Once Violet was inside, he slammed the door shut, its hinges creaking form the impact. He jogged over to the computer, looking for the blasted power button.

In an instant, the screen came to life, flashing all sorts of strange lights and whatnot. He typed a few words in, then turned back to Violet. "Right..so..what type of Pokemon do you want?"

Violet gave a small smile as he answered the door. The poor guy was trying to act like he was in a good mood. Oh well. He tried. The slam of the door shook the building, making her wince. She looked around in awe as they made their way to the computer. Flashing lights and machines she has never seen before are everywhere she looked. She wondered what they were used for...She snapped out of it when he asked, embarrased that she didn't pay attention. She thought of the answer to that for a while, and always thought about flying types, graceful and yet powerful, things that she herself figured she never had. With a spark of excitement in her eye, she answered, "Flying type."

The boy looked around in his twitchy manner, then responded in a small voice. "Flying...uh yeah..sure." He managed not to lose it by burying himself in the computer screen, clicking on various files and generally trying to get the ancient machine to work. Professor Willow joked that it was older than her. It seemed to to him. The computer blanked out, and he cursed under his breath, muttering about the blasted machine. He smacked the thing with his fist, and it lit back up. Now working again, he typed in a couple words before four Pokeballs slid out of the bottom of the machine in a tube attached to one of its many openings.

One almost rolled off of the table before he barely managed to catch it and dropped one of the books in his hand. He straightened himself, then cursed again before clearing his throat. He grabbed the first one, clumsily pressed the small button in the middle and it burst open, a red light flashing out to form the figure of a Tropius. It stretched out its neck, almost hitting the ceiling before looking upon Violet with curious eyes. She stared at her, humming softly.

The boy then proceeded to grab the second Pokeball, which opened to reveal the form of a very strange bird. The Sigilyph just floated there, showing no expression. He obviously wasn't making a very good impression on Violet, managing even to creep the lab assistant out.

Finally, he clicked open the third and final ball. Out came a majestic, yet puffy bird. Swablu flew around the room, singing in its light voice, and smiling at Violet before perching on her shoulder, and flying back to the table. The boy stood up and began to talk. "So...uh..those are the Pokemon you can chose from. There's also a mystery one..if you don't like any of them."

Violet watched with curiosity as he went to work. As the computer kept malfunctioning, she thought more and more maybe the machines weren't any better. When the first pokeball escaped from his hands, she tried to stifle a laugh. As all the pokemon came out, she noted their behavior. Tropius seemed offly clumsy. Sigilyph was.......She shivered ever time she looked at him. And Swablu seemed really friendly! She pictured the Swablu as she pictured her dream flying-type. Trying to hide her excitement, she claimed in a steady voice, "As great as the other pokemon seem, I prefer Swablu."

The boy nodded in acceptance, then handed Violet the Pokeball. He also opened a cabinet, grabbed a few select items, and slammed it shut with a thud. He ended up dumping everything into a cream-colored sack. "Right, so there's all of the stuff you need for your....adventure. There's also a Pokedex, for all of your recording needs.." He trailed off, unsure of what to say next. "Oh yeah, and a few Pokeballs for capturing more of them.

Next, he crammed the two other Pokeballs back into the machine, hoping that the stupid thing would work, for once. He strode over, opened the door, and quickly ushered Violet out. He poked his head out one last time, and quickly said, "Have fun!" The sarcasm wasn't masked very well.
