Well, that was it. The final touch. Sam's hand fell and she stepped back to admire her handy work. Pictures of everyone hung from the walls, streamers of all different colors hung from the ceiling and the walls. A stage with a raffle box and some larger boxes stood to the side. A disco ball hung from the ceiling. A feast was set out on tables draped with the rainbow. This was going to be a memorial night.
The first to enter was Rose, a girl with brown hair, a serious face, but pretty, nice, despite her angry demeanor. She walked in and recognized Sam immediately. Her face lightened and she ran forward to shake her hand. "Sam, so nice to see you!" Sam smiled joyfully. "And you too, Rose!"
The next was a pair of young adults. The man was taller than the girl, but their faces looked slightly alike and they seemed as if nothing could tear them apart, with the holding hands and the girl leaning slightly on her boyfriend's arm. Sam nodded towards them. "Ah, James and Katherine! So nice that you could show up today!" James answered in his smooth voice. "The place looks amazing, Sam."
Rose was looking Katherine in the eye. There was something behind her perfect smile, the way she was almost on top of James. Her eyes. The back of them. Rose could see nervousness, fear, maybe even a bit of anger. It confused Rose. She knew that Katherine wasn't a Malum. If she was, however, there would be no reason to be afraid. This was the party in which all the inhabitants of Aero came together in peace. She couldn't be Malum anyway. James was an official Aeroian. No one from the other side would ever be so close.
A Grovyle hopped in quickly, her eyes darting from side to side, as if something would attack her. When she was fully into the party room, she calmed down a bit, but kept up her guard. "Kaitlyn, no reason to be afraid. Kaitlyn locked eyes with the human who said this. Sam, she knew. An understanding reached her and she opened her mouth to speak. For some reason, she already knew Sam would understand. "It is old habit. The way of nature. Grass type instincts." Sam smiled. "Yes, humans can understand Pokemon in this room only." She turned to the others.
"Well, we just gotta wait for everyone else to arrive, right?" A flicker of a different kind of emotion came over Sam. James, Katherine, and Kaitlyn failed to notice it, however, Rose noticed it right away. Longing. Doubt. Fear. Anxiety. Something was wrong. Sam was acting a little strange, as if she was anticipating something dreadful coming up. Rose huffed. Nothing came to her. She just had to wait and see.
