Fate was unprepared for an attack she couldn't counter and she took her first hit of the battle. She gritted her teeth and waited for Confusion to take effect. No pain came to her. She opened her eyes and saw only glowing lights. It was around her, but it wasn't hurting her. She looked up, stunned, at Metang, still using the attack. Then it hit her. Illusion gave her moves, but didn't change her type. She almost jumped in glee. She huffed, like a Rapidash should and lowered her head.
Rose was just as giddy with excitement as her Pokemon was. She was prepared for Fate to turn back into a Zorua and their chances of winning be turned down to less then fifty percent, but she was still in! "Now, Fate! Flame Wheel on Metang!"

Brendan scoped the battlefield quickly. Skarmory was losing power, and fast. Fang seemed energized as a wave of sparks swept over him. He was ready to go. On the other hand, Zorua was also dominating over Metang.. The great fiery Rapidash was still intact. They would win this, but they had to be smart about how they did it.
Metang was beginning to attack again, staring into Zorua's eyes. Brendan almost laughed out loud. Psychic attacks against Dark-type Pokemon? Brendan shook his head.
But his joy didn't last long. Skarmory had swiped several handfuls - or clawfuls of sand into Fang's eyes. It was really distorting, and Fang, already hyped up, couldn't seem to focus. Anyway, Brendan had to do something. He pointed to Metang, and yelled. "Hit him with Charge Beam! Then he'll have two attacks to dodge!" Fang, who was still in a daze spun around twice before roaring and firing a pulse of electricity at Metang.

Screech was not worried over the weak effect of confusion. No, he was meerley luring these two trainers in. And he took his chance has both trainers had their pokemon attack Metang. They had both turned their attention to his stronger pokemon, leaving skamory unattened.
"Peck on Zorua, from beinhd. Quickly!" He added, Watching skamory pick him self up into battle mode again, changing things up again. His beak Began to glow, and swopped Sprinted over to Zorua, still not flying, but quicker than ever.
Metang was finnaly taking bi hits now. He dodged flame wheel easily, he saw it coming. But luck had left him. Charge beam hit him, knocking him back into flame wheel. He took the big hits blown back. He still had energy left, but those two hits were critical. another combo like that would be brutal. But screech was changing things still.
"Switch targets, and use Take down!"
Metang turned to his new opponent, and did as he was told. Maybe the switch up would turn the tides back in their favor.

Fate didn't savor the victory of hitting Metang. She had been keeping a closer watch on both Pokemon so she wouldn't be hit again, especially with a move that would take away her transformation. Skarmory had disappeared and the thought that he had left his position to attack her came. She landed on the ground and immediately took off, using the speed of Rapidash in her favor. She spotted Skarmory just a ways behind her and turned around to face him. She heard the word "Ember!" shout in Rose's voice, so she reared magnificently and spit hot embers into Skarmory's face.

Fang was getting tired now. Charging up two supercharged attacks had been exhausting. But the battle still raged on. Tynamo's last barrage of energy had knocked Metang into an inferno of swirling flames. Brendan grimaced. It wasn't a pretty sight. Although the combination had taken its toll, the iron golem was still intact. Brendan realized something, finally. Metang could take hits, and plenty of them. Screech depended on Skarmory for damage. If they could focus their attacks on the bird, Metang couldn't do anything by itself. A few beads of sweat rolled down Brendan's forehead. It was getting hot in here. He looked over at Rose, and yelled, "Skarmory's weak! Finish it and we can easily take Metang down!"
Both of Screech's pokemon had incredibly high amounts of physical armor. But against fire or electric shocks? Not so much. With the added energy accumulated from Charge Beam, Fang let loose another wave of energy, this time at Skarmory, intent on stopping its Peck from reaching Zorua, or rather, Rapidash. Fang was still dizzy, however, when he had targeted Skarmory, and Brendan could only groan as the attack cleared the bird by a few inches. Scratched, maybe, but not enough to stop its attack. He called out to Rose to take caution, but knew, somehow, this battle was beginning to take a turn for the worst.

Metang's anger flared through himself, in an almost impossible way. The steel type pokemon was no longer under screech's control. He raged with take down on Tynamo. SCreech yelled no, but his pokemon anger at seeing his friend fall pittifullly to the ground had set him off.
Giving up on metang, screech quickly witdrew Skamory, and began to think how he could still win with one pokemon.

Rose couldn't believed her eyes as Skarmory fell to Fate's fiery attack. She stood there and watched as the great unicorn fell back onto fours and cantered back over to Rose. Though her face was different, her eyes shone with glee. They had the definite upper hand now. And it'd been extreme luck that Fate hadn't been attacked yet. They now stood together. Fate and Fang, Fate facing, with determination, towards that great beast of a Pokemon.
And he was coming closer with a Take Down. Looking back at Rose, Fate wondered what to do. Her trainer's eyes were wild with excitement. Rose was actually scared to death. She didn't want her first gym battle to end in failure and she also didn't want her Pokemon to be hurt. And one hit would cut their chances entirely. And this move had to be chosen well. They were nearing the end of their battle.
"Fate! Use Megahorn!" Fate turned towards Rose, a bit surprised. This was not the move she would have chosen, forgetting completely that Metang was part psychic. But she launched herself forward anyways, horn glowing green

Fang screeched an earsplitting cry of pain as he took Metang's full weight with his tiny body. The little eel was thrown to the wall with a sickening crunch as he passed from consciousness into darkness. Brendan winced, hearing his partner faint in an instant. He held out a Pokeball, and Fang's inert carcass disappeared in a flash of light. Pulling out another from his backpack, he pressed the button, and the form of a Trapinch sitting, as if in deep thought. Brendan gave off a lighthearted chuckle, one of the first in a long while. He pointed out the enemy to Celeste, and, after a painfully long silence, she responded by leaping upwards at Metang, pincers readied.

and it was all over in seconds. A one two punch. the recoil from take down and two hits from two different pokemon. Metang could hardly react. Recoil got him pretty good, Mega Horn shocking him, and teetered for a moment. Extremley confused. But soon he was fainted on the ground.
Screech sighed, and withdrew his pokemon. "Listen next time" He cooed to it softly, before stowing it away. He walked carefully onto the battle field, reaching in his pocket.
"I believe I owe you two badges" And he held them out.

For a second, Rose didn't move. Her hands were still clenched into fists and her eyes narrowed, as if they still battled. She barely saw the badge in the man's hand, but she did see, and feel, Fate transforming back into herself. The blazing red fell away and the heat of the room also retracted. Rose blinked and released her fingers. Fate stood beneath her, tiny, smiling wide with joy. They'd won the battle!
This settled upon Rose and she looked up at Screech. He was holding out two gym badges, one for her, one for Brendan. Her hand shook as she grasped the badge in her hand and held it up to the light. Her first badge. Her joy was silent, but surrounded her like a thick cloak. She wondered how Brendan felt, if he carried the same wonder as her.

Happiness, in its truest form, flooded over Brendan's towering figure. From a small upwards twisting of the lips, it spread infectiously through his entire body. It didn't stop there; he pumped his fist in the air - this was likely one of the first things he had ever truly earned in his entire life. The joy he felt could be compared to the gratification one receives when a risky venture pays off, both physically and metaphorically. Celeste, having finally realized their victory, had (with no small difficulty) caught Brendan in a flying tackle, his entire being glowing with the triumph of victory as he cradled her in his arms.
Looking back upwards towards Screech, a shining emblem of his success lay in his hands, Brendan's for the taking. Cautiously, he slowly reached out his hand and accepted it, in the smoothest motion he could manage, although, it wasn't exactly convincing, as Brendan would hear from Celeste, later of course.
Two words, addressed at not only Screech, but of the world, his new friends, and of course, Rose.
"Thank You"
It was simple yet, sincere, and his countenance betrayed no deviation from his words. They were of his mind, and in no small manner grateful. The future that he would now forge for himself was in no way simple, easy, or at all clairvoyant. No, his destiny - his fate - was now in his hands, at last.
